SEVEN AND KIMBERLY-NI AND THEM

Now let me talk to you about Seven and Kimberly-ni and them. In case I mention them later, I want you to know who they are.

The and them first. They were the folks I worked with at Aspens. We sold steaks and crabcakes and wine together. And my relations there transcended simple friendships: complicated, smart, multi-faceted relationships for many of my co-workers and me there. It was educational.

Like most tedium, it was more parts misery loves company than parts love. But it was love. Many of us honestly and openly cared for one another. Scott and Matt were little brothers to me, Alexander a best friend. There was Chef – who can’t cover me – and Pretty and Ernesto and Jack and Brett in the kitchen with a band of Immigrants and Freaks. Christy who I pined for, always wished were single. And my dear friends Andrea and Keith who helped me think of my art. And three Cool Js and Christa and Little Baby Dino and GOP and Brandon and a rotating cast of “quality servers” and stoner-dude Bussers – the S.A.s- to be amused by. BP, Big ups. That was and them.

Kimberly-ni was different. She pushed me to do this. She was the first person to really encourage me to write about GEORGIA, to enhance this side of my literary repertoire. I did. Plus, she was there for me a tough time or two, and it meant a lot to me. She’s a good DAWG.

Seven is the UGA we have moved onto – a damn fine young dog. May he live long and prosper. He is one-and-o so far; C. Michigan is next. In numerology, as Black Francis from my favorite college band, Pixies, used to say: “God is seven.”

God Bless and Glory to Ol’ GEORGIA. We are Number One.

Comcast was unable to broadcast the pay-per-view game in part of the Cobb County area. This is the third time ever and twice in two years that we have been unable to order the game from them due to server problems on their end. Scott chatted on the net with their representative: “Frustration does not belong to explain…”

Nothing. Radio. Larry, sounding old and being loved. The sounds but not sights of UGA VII. We played like a number one team in the first half. Read the highlights in a few below blawgs if you missed anything.

Tom talked to his mom on vacation in Destin – she happened to be on vacation with the mom of a Comcast Executive. We were called from someone who worked for him who then had a tech call us and override the pay-per-view. We got the second half free.

Dawgs were way up by then, but heck if we weren’t glad to see Knowshon and Stafford and Green and King and Cox and Durham really look good. We have a deep offensive team. The Eagles made it look respectable with three late scores. We scored forty-five, which is around what we were hitting most of the last half of last season. We were up 38-0 at one point.

At least, we got the game, finally, so I won’t be needing to firebomb Comcast. The season is under way and the Number One DAWGS whipped our way down south friends. Thank God for friends.

Playing Like Number One

We punt

But then they punt

Touchdown

To wind down the half

There’s not much time left

It’s 24 to nothing, like 24 Knowshon?

And we do

We score twice.

Try our young talent, then put the backups in.

Samuel beat King for number 2 and Cox is already in; good to see Cox in.

Samuel fumbles.

We STOP them; Ellerbe with a pick.

We go and score as Kris Durham takes it to the house.

Southern received ball in endzone

Two drops

A broken up shuttle pass

Punt

Moreno with a long run

Pass to new young stud AJ Green to the one

Moreno…TOUCHDOWN

In other news: Comcast has been unable to provide service to the Cobb County area via pay-per-view (again) and ESPN Gameday from The ATL was all about Tebow as Jesus Christ, BAMA as well-coached and Clemson as a good school for hot chicks. The last is true, and they did properly note that the ACC is a joke and the SEC is by far the best football conference.

Georgia. Stop.

Don’t follow up the name for our fair state

With the word Southern or Tech or even State

We are the only school that is great

This is DAWG country

From the top of the mountains

To the bogs of the swamps

From the gritty city streets

To way down below the gnat line

If you are a DAWG, repeat after me

Your boy, man on the scene, HV

GEORGIA IS ALL MINE

Big ups, GO DAWGS!
