Looks Like a Shootout

But of late these games have been defensive punt-fests punctuated by the DAWGS winning each time. It is game week, today, baby, and don’t think that the Jak-Its even have a calendar to circle the date. After all, they are just number geeks, nothing more. And their calendar reads 365 DAWGS. No need for us to worry or change when we OWN that ass, Tech. But you are bringing two things to ATHENS this time: 1. a hot offense 2. a winning attitude. Last time our offense was really good, we beat you by around 50. The difference this time is that you have an offense, too, and our D has been suspect at best. You won’t be stopping us, but will we be stopping you enough to win the game??? Richt has NEVER lost to you. Not at FSU. Not at UGA. Trend says: DAWGS WIN.

Waiting and watching. If Tech plays well tonight, that will be a strong indicator that their one bad game against N. Carolina was just that – one bad game. They are rolling pretty strong on offense, even outgaining UNC in that 28-7 loss. The way to beat them is to force turnovers, tackle well and avoid the big plays. GEORGIA has been strong in none of those three categories, so the Jackets do match up well with us. We have survived so many nailbiters with them of recent that they are due. I am hoping for a DAWGS offensive explosion and some solid defense after two weeks preparation. I’ll be tuning in tonight to check out the Jackets.

Three-in-a-row over a rival, five-out-of-seven over a rival, never felt so treacherous. They were deep in DAWGS’ territory late with a chance to win, as Kentucky was, as S. Carolina was and we won. As bad as our defense has been, this season could have been much worse. They have bent but not broken against all but the finest of competition. We can’t do anything about the Bama game or the Florida game now. We are 9-2 and disappointed. That is the hallmark of a team that expects big things: disappointment in anything less than perfection. Did we fall short? Yes. Did we fall short against a rather game Auburn team on the road in windy conditions. NOT TODAY! We won and now we have a bye week to get ready for our in-state rival. We will win eleven games this year…and one of those victories will be over you, North Ave Trade Scool Yella Jackets. GO DAWGS!!!

Ranking Our Rivals

1. Florida – We Have Dropped Three Of Five…Which Is Improvement Of Late

2. Tech – Peach State Debate

3. Auburn – South’s Oldest Rivalry Is Among Sister Schools

4. Tennessee – Border Battle In SEC East

5. S. Carolina – They Got The Ol’ Ballcoach

6. LSU – Other SEC Team With Best Recent Year Records

7. Bama – Could Be So Much Bigger If We Played Regularly

8. Clemson – History And Geography (Clemson closer to Athens than Tech campus is)

9. Wisconsin/Purdue/Virginia (tie) – Multiple Bowl Opponents

10. Ohio State - We Hate Them Because We Just Do

Our recent record and how we compare to all of these programs is favorable, with the glaring exception being Florida. Although we have won more games than them in the past five years, they have won 3 of 5 against us…and if you extend the recent history – while ignoring all history like johnny-come-lately Gator fans oft do – it is so much worse. For the record: WE ARE THE HISTORICALLY STRONGER PROGRAM.

Upcoming: We have won four of six versus Auburn and not lost to Tech in my children’s lifetimes

Sister School Worries

Auburn and Georgia is the Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South, first played in Piedmont Park in Atlanta. This series is traditionally very, very close, yet GEORGIA has seemingly turned the corner by winning four of the last six. Funny things happen in this series – which is what scares me. We beat them bad last year on our way to a number two national finish. It was BLACKOUT and intense and they turned it over and could not stop us. The year prior, they were number five in the country and we were struggling coming in. They turned it over and did not stop us and we righted the ship. Ah, the ship. The ship scares me, see, Auburn is having a rare down year. They have been inept on offense, but our defense has been Swiss Cheese. They are very solid on defense, and the strength of our team is clearly our skill people. They match up well enough, and funny bounces and upsets of a blowout nature have been seen repeatedly in this series. Do not chalk it up in the win column yet, and should we happen to lose – and they are past due for a big win – the program will be in big trouble. Win this game or take another major step back. Our sister school may be down but they have talent. They are not the Sisters of the Poor. They were preseason Top 10, until Tommy’s annual coordinator blaming and shuffling finally caught up to him. He wants to save their program by beating Georgia and Auburn and damn near needs to beat at least one of the aforementioned to save his job. Bama is number one in the country and has an unrivaled bloodthirst for Auburn. He knows his best shot is this game, and we have flirted with being upset and have not shown killer instinct. Point blank: I am worried about this game a bit…That said, I do predict we win. After all the hype, can we play like the Top 10 program we are?

Enemy Report (Vols)

Guest Enemy Report: UT (by: Jesse James) – I see sorrow in all of my fellow tennessee fans’ faces this early november. this year we see Phil Fulmer let go, the coach i’ve seen the tennessee football team and organization call godfather for so long. coming in, i believed we had what it took to be a top 3 sec team, but sadly our offensive scheme was not up to par. the departure of cutcliffe was more damaging than i thought. eric berry nevertheless was more than spectacular on defense, but he alone could not bring ut to victory. i guess all i can do is wait for next year.

but now i can only see a bama gator match-up in the sec championship, and as good as i have to say florida is i have to say bama is due one. so my prediction for the sec championship is bama 31, florida 28. florida missin’ a field goal within the 2 minute mark

Worst D, Best O

Just does not make sense that the athletes on our defense are playing as collectively poorly as they are. The Tech game looks like it may be a shootout after the problems we had at Kentucky, in J-Ville, at Baton Rouge. If we can’t stop inept Auburn, we can stop no one, and Tech runs the ball very well. I predict, we win both and the damn Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day against Ohio State.

Realistically, when you look at the schedule and see at LSU and Florida in J-Ville in back-to-back weeks, you should realize that the probability says you lose one of those games. The thing is, we had already dropped a game, a game in which we trailed 31-0. And until we fix our Florida problem – like we did last year and are capable of doing – we can not take that last huge step as a program.

Our offense has been generally stellar, yet inopportunistic when it mattered most. Knowshon, Green, Massaquoi, Stafford and Southerland represent the fire power. I say we outscore the rest of the teams we play and still leave with a bad taste for next year…and go after the SEC Title in 2009, instead of the elusive mythical National Title.

Big Question: Does Willie Martinez get fired this offseason?

Bigger Question: Does Stafford return or is it the Joe Cox show??

Biggest Question: Does Moreno return for his Redshirt Junior Season???

More of a non-loss than a win

More than a win

It was not another loss

Losing big games still marks this season

We have beaten no opponent with less than three losses

And there was plenty of excitement

As far as big plays and offense

But this was a battle of SEC East also-rans

I am alum and forever fan

And we won, man

The only story would have been

If we had lost…again

DAWGS-Zonely

I Hate Losing WAY, WAY, WAY More Than You

I Hate It More Than Richt, Stafford and Bobo Combined

I Hate It As Much As Larry Does – Munson FOREVER!!!

And Losing To Your Biggest Rival, Neigh, Giving Them The Game Like A Bunch Of No Heart Free Hookers: NOT GOOD, NOT VERY GOOD AT ALL

But Look At GEORGIA in God’s Country Today

It Is Still Fall, Y’all, And There Is NOTHING Unfamiliar About This

I’m At The Frat, In The Rhetta And

We Have Dropped Two Games And Are A Top 15 Program That Wants To Be THE Program

We Are Not There Yet, And We Could Have Been If We Had Run Moreno Like Dooley Would Have

Of Any Team Since The Great Coach Retired, This One Would Have Been Most-Suited To His Unique Vision

Three Yards And A Cloud Of Dust? NO…Six Yards Per Carry. Do That 30 Times Per Game And You Win

I Squarely Blame The Two Losses On RICHT Not Mandating To BOBO That Moreno Runs 30 Times Every Game

WWDD – What Would Dooley Do

And Yes, We May Have Lost A Game Anyway, But We Would Not Have Been Crushed

GEORGIA Only Wins When We…WE, WE, WE, Run!

Run, Run, Run

We Are Not And Will Never Be FSU – Why Would We Want To Be Them

We Are Scatback U

Big Blue, Today, We Scatback All Over You

Maybe Next Year – A Familiar Refrain Round Here

WE HAVE THE BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE COUNTRY

If He Comes Back And Gets 30 Carries In EVERY Game Next Season

We Go Undefeated

17 Carries Will Never Be Confused With 30

Just Like Georgia Will Never Be Confused With Kentucky

THIS IS A MUST WIN

Few Signs of Life

The carnage, the hangover, the empty feeling of playing without enough heart. The season is not over, however. It just feels like it. Massaquoi played a great football game as I watch the condensed replay. He had so many big catches and key blocks. Stafford was so game on most of his passes that the coaches tried to overlook his mistakes. That is what I call bad head coaching. Cox and Stafford will both be back as Senior QBs next year, after this meltdown. Meaning Cox will never play much for us. He needed a shot in this game. Stafford had 3 turnovers. After the 2nd or even the 3rd, it should have been up to Cox. His late play was one of the few signs of life.
